Valhi (NYSE: VHI) has operations through its majority-owned subsidiaries or less than majority-owned affiliates in the chemicals, component products, waste management and titanium metals industries.

Company Description

Valhi is a producer of titanium dioxide, of certain locking devices, some titanium metal, and waste services. It is a subsidiary of Contran Corporation and has officers in common with Kronos, a titanium dioxide producer.

Titanium dioxide is the white pigment of choice in paints, plastics and sometimes used in foods. But it is a highly competitive business with Dupont the industry leader.

Valhi appears to be the spinoff from some other business perhaps destined to be a free standing company.
