Durable goods

The durable goods number tells us the dollar value of all goods that were produced that we expect to last three years or more. When people are less sure of the economy, they're more likely to put off buying "big ticket items" like cars. Business owners also put off things like plant upgrades and buying new machinery. Knowing this number helps us to know when the economy is growing.
