Major corporations also participate in solar energy. Hemlock of Midland, MI is the leading producer of silicon. They are owned by Dow-Corning, a jv of Dow Chemical and Corning Glassworks. Dow is also reported developing photovoltaic shingles that will provide solar electricity with reduced installation costs.
Wacker Chemie in Germany is another silicon supplier. Dupont participates with some of its film technologies.
