Company Description
Akzo is a Dutch company that is the largest global paints and coatings company and a major producer of specialty chemicals. In 1994, Akzo merged with Nobel, a collection of Swedish companies that include Alfred Nobel's company and Bofors. Nobel is best known as the inventor of dynamite and smokeless powder and the creator of the Nobel prizes.
In 1998, Akzo acquired Courtaulds of UK, a maker of synthetic fibers and owner of International Paints. In 2008, Akzo acquired Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) of UK, which owned Glidden and National Starch in the US.
Akzo paint brand names include Liquid Nails, Devoe, Dulux and Sikkens auto refinish enamels.
Chemicals include products for paper pulping and deinking, and salt.
