Company Description

Sensient Technologies was founded in 1882 as Meadow Springs Distilling Company. In the late 1800s, the Company changed its name to National Distilling Company. During Prohibition the company became a supplier yeast under the Red Star brand name. In 1960, the diversified foods company changed it name to Universal Food Products. The Sentient Technologies name was adopted in 2000 after over 20 acquisitions. The Red Star yeast business was sold in 2001.
