Chemtura Corporation, with 2007 revenues of $3.7 billion, was formed in 2005 from the merger of Crompton Corporation and Great Lakes Chemical Corporation. Predecessors include Crompton & Knowles Corporation, Uniroyal Chemical Corporation, Hatco, and Witco Corporation.

In 2014, Chemtura announced the sale of its Agricultural Chemicals unit to Platform Specialty Products. The Wall Street Journal reported that the company plans to focus on industrial chemicals such as fumigants and lubricants.
