The Pac-Man defense is a method of resisting a hostile takeover bid in which the company threatened with a takeover turns around and makes a hostile takeover offer for its acquirer.

The term is derived from the Namco video game Pac-Man, who is chased around a maze of ghosts by four monsters. When the title character eats an energizer dot, he is able to chase, and eat, the monsters.
