Covanta (NYSE: CVA) is a developer, owner and operator of infrastructure for the conversion of energy-from-waste, waste disposal and renewable energy production businesses in the United States.

Company Description

Covanta is a developer, owner and operator of infrastructure for the conversion of waste to energy (known as “energy-from-waste”), as well as other waste disposal and renewable energy production businesses in the Americas, Europe and Asia. They are organized as a holding company and conduct all of their operations through subsidiaries which are engaged predominantly in the businesses of waste and energy services. They also engage in the independent power production business outside the United States.

Covanta owns, has equity investments in, and/or operates 60 energy generation facilities, 50 of which are in the United States and 10 of which are located outside the United States. Their energy generation facilities use a variety of fuels, including municipal solid waste, wood waste (biomass), landfill gas, water (hydroelectric), natural gas, coal, and heavy fuel-oil. They also own or operate several businesses that are associated with our energy-from-waste business, including a waste procurement business, a biomass procurement business, four landfills, which they use primarily for ash disposal, and several waste transfer stations.
