Airgas (NYSE: ARG) is a distributor of industrial, medical and specialty and welding, safety and related products. It also produces nitrous oxide in the U. S. and produces and supplies dry ice and liquid carbon dioxide in the Southeastern United States.

Company Description

The basic business is separation of air into oxygen and nitrogen (sometimes with isolation of rare gases like argon). The traditional technology consists of distillation of liquid air at very low temperatures.

Welding supplies usually include acetylene (made from calcium carbide) supplied in cylinders as well as oxygen.

In 2015, Air Liquide (19% market share) announced plans to acquire Airgas (3% market share) making it close to Linde (21% global market share) as the largest air separation company.
